The City of Farley is excited to announce and accept applications for a banner program that will recognize and honor those who are serving or have served in the United States Armed Forces.

The program is intended to recognize and show appreciation for veterans and military personnel and their families who have ties to the Farley area and American Legion Post #656. Banners will display a photo of the service person, as well as their name, branch, and dates of military service.

QUALIFICATIONS

To qualify for the Military and Veteran Banner Program, the following criteria must be met:

  • The honoree is an active duty member of the United States Armed Forces who has, or did, reside in Farley, or resided in Farley and are now deceased, or was a member of American Legion Post #656; OR
  • The honoree is a retired or honorably discharged member of the United States Armed Forces who has, or did, reside in Farley, or resided in Farley and are now deceased, or was a member of American Legion Post #656; OR
  • The applicant must be a current resident or business based in Farley.

BANNER STYLE AND DISPLAY

Each banner is double sided, full color, 23"x44'and custom made with an image of the honoree (provided by the applicant).

Banners will be placed on the decorative light poles on 1st Street N by the Public Works Department for the weeks including Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, and Veteran's Day, weather permitting, for two years. As many as 37 members of the military will be honored on poles throughout Farley. There is a limit of one banner per honoree, and one person per banner. Banners will be sold on a first come, first served basis as payment is received.

The City will not be responsible for replacing banners that are stolen, damaged or destroyed due to sun, weather, age, vandalism or any act of nature beyond our control, such as high winds.

Upon removal of the banner after the second year, every effort will be made to give the banner to the applicant.

COST AND DETAILS

$100 per banner, good for two years. Cost covers the purchase of the banner, installation, and maintenance. You are also invited to make a donation to our local veteran affairs programs.

Applicant is required to provide a high quality photo of the honoree in his/her military uniform. Photos must be provided no later than November 1, 2020.

City Staff are accepting accepting applications now and may be submitted at Farley Municipal Building. Payment must be received in order for application to be processed. Checks should be made payable to the City of Farley.

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS

The deadline to submit application for a banner is November 1, 2020, or until availability runs out.
